MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT...

“The bonds of love are easily broken down when money comes into play”, this is the theme of Sidney Sheldon’s morning, noon and night. The different developments are beautifully compared to the different parts of a day(blah!!!I felt sleepy when I read noon…snore snore..)….the book ends on a grim note though a few characters face the reality bravely and others find love(for evil people it ends grimly and good people it ends happily).
Harry Stanford: This billion dollar baby is a business tycoon. He has an affair with the governess of the children driving their mother to commit suicide, thus killing the only two people the children loved. He torments his children, only to die a horrible death when he falls of his lovely ship. His death occurs in the morning part.. Is his death natural..If not, who killed him..? Why..?How does the killer get away with such a high profile murder…? These questions are answered in noon and night and takes the wind out of the readers.. Upon his death, he leaves behind an estate worth six billion and the remainder of the story goes on to explain how the children get together after years..(morning), the sudden appearance of another child(noon) and the brilliant plot laid by one of the children(night)…….who is that child…?
Children:
Taylor Stanford:…This son, always discouraged by the daddy, goes on to become an “oh-so-well-known” lawyer(fatty fatty guy, not very attractive). but daddy keeps saying “I know your little secret”..what exactly is it…? This secret plays a huge part in the ploy so well-conceived ( I was very anxious to know this…but it was not that shocking after all).. When the truth about the plot does come to light, I was reeling under a huge shock. He kills himself in the end with a BOOM!!! And his plans failed with a BANG!!!
Kendall Renaud Stanford: The beautiful daughter who turns out to be a ‘Magazine-covers-grazing’ fashion designer. She finds love in Marc Renaud. Life goes on smoothly but an incident rocks her world. (shhhh!!!! Secret secret….) she is caught in a hit-and-run case but someone is out to blackmail her. The demands keep growing from thousands to millions. When she does find out who it is, she is shocked (me too….don’t trust anyone. The dumb criminal forgets type writers are unique!!!!). Her eyes open……she finds peace….
Woodrow: The handsome, sport loving son who ends up with polo because of his sweet daddy. He marries a waitress. He loves his wife but suddenly starts beating her up. Later she discovers that he is on drugs. Who is supplying it to him is the big question….? And the answer is an even bigger surprise….(oooh again don’t trust others)
Julia Stanford: The child born to the governess, Julia grows up in a world where she struggles for basic needs. She is not greedy but needs only love. She gets a job and settles down but her father’s death makes her want to visit her family again… But someone makes an attempt on her life.. Why..? Her brothers and sister are shocked to see what they call a second Julia..oooh there has been an imposter.. How will she prove she is the genuine one..? Though she leaves as empty handed as she came she leaves with a ring on her finger (wink wink)….
Thus have I surmised the characters of Morning, Noon and Night. The book focuses more on characters, the relationships, what money does, what fame does and how we need to live a good life. There are other events which take place.. Who is the imposter? Where is Harry’s body? Who is the man with the itching hand..?
It’s a pleasant book which does not leave one as sad as rage of angels neither as stunned as tell me your dreams. It does not have a strong story line like sands of time still it gives one the feel-good-factor which is very important when comes to books. As I said before the book focuses on characters. Major portion of the book contains various incidents which bring out the various traits in different characters. It’s a little boring in the middle but to-the-point writing made me sit with it.
My advice: Read it on a relaxed hot Sunday afternoon and be prepared for the shocks in the night part.. Don’t bother for a tissue…
